The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Maintenance Apprentice to join our team. In this entry-level role, you will assist experienced maintenance technicians in the repair, upkeep, and improvement of equipment, buildings, and systems. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop technical skills in a professional environment.
This role offers on-the-job training and career development and the opportunity for progression into qualified maintenance roles.
Essential Functions

- Assist with routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs on equipment, systems, and facilities (ammonia-based freezer system).
- Support the maintenance team with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues.
- Learn to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Help install, assemble, or disassemble machinery, furniture, and fixtures.
- Document maintenance tasks and report issues to supervisors or senior staff.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, company policies, and training procedures.
- Participate in on-the-job training and educational courses as required
Competencies
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Basic knowledge of tools and hand-held equipment is a plus.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong interest in mechanical, electrical, or facilities maintenance work.
Preferred Education & Experience
- 3-5 years of relative on the job experience or enrollment in or completion of a vocational or technical training program.
- Previous experience in a maintenance or construction environment (even part-time or volunteer) is an asset.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The employee is primarily working in a warehouse environment, between 0 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The noise level in the warehouse can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. Work may be performed under hazardous conditions such as operating heavy equipment within the Warehouse. Required to wear all issued safety gear at all times. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires lifting heavy objects, walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time. Performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions such as cold. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively bends, crouches, twists, sprints or throws objects. The employee must climb and maintain body balance. Frequently lifts items up to 40 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m with some flexibility needed. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This position does not require travel.
